The UK Charity Commission has opened a compliance case into gambling charity The Young Gamers and Gamblers Education Trust (YGAM) over possible links to the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC).
First reported by iGamingBusiness, the site states that the Charity Commission didn’t state why it was launching a case into YGAM, but it did emphasize that the case isn’t an investigation, just a compliance case to establish facts on the issue.
The Charity Commission also stressed that the case does not mean any wrongdoing has occurred, and YGAM has insisted that the compliance case was a query, rather than an investigation into the two organisations.
A statement released by the Charity Commission reads: “We have opened a regulatory compliance case to assess the matter and are currently engaging with the trustees.”
YGAM also released a statement on the compliance case, stating: “Our board of trustees have answered a query from the Charity Commission with full confidence and transparency. It has provided an opportunity to evidence our independent, governance controls and approach to evaluation.
“We are incredibly proud of our dedicated team and the work they do to deliver our award-winning resources through the Young People’s Gambling Harm Prevention Programme.”
A spokesperson for the BGC said: “The BGC is proud to support the superb work being done by YGAM and GamCare through the Young People’s Gambling Harm Prevention Programme, which in its first year exceeded its targets for providing education for young people and training for those who work with them.”
