MGM has launched their very own sports betting app in New Jersey.
MGM announced their app playMGM will be taking sports betting on Wednesday (August 22), making New Jersey the second state in which MGM has launched a mobile wagering application. It’s been available in Nevada for several years now.
The new app is currently only available for Android devices and lacks a browser-based option, though MGM has revealed that the apps for other systems will be released “shortly”.
According to the Associated Press, the first mobile wager was a $50 bet on the Philadelphia Eagles winning their first game of the 2018 NFL season.
However, MGM’s sports betting app isn’t the first to launch in New Jersey. Sportsbook operator DraftKings launched their app in the first week of August. Meanwhile, several other competitor sportsbooks operators have vowed to launch their own apps before the new NFL season kicks off.

The news comes after Atlantic City’s Borgata casino, also owned by MGM, became the first Atlantic City casino to launch land-based sports betting in June.
MGM also made history this month after announcing a special partnership with the NBA, making the Las Vegas casino and resort company NBA’s official gaming partner. The announcement marks the first time a North American sports league has struck a business-to-business deal with a sportsbook provider and the agreement could open doors for other leagues to make similar partnerships.
