Alexander, Arthur and James are some of the bookies’ favourite names for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s first child.
The Duke of Sussex announced yesterday (May 6) that his wife, the Duchess of Sussex, had given birth to the couple’s first child, a baby boy, on Monday morning.
A statement was released on the Royal couple’s Instagram account where it was revealed that the child was born shortly before 6 AM weighing 7lbs 3oz. The announcement added that the duchess and newborn were both “healthy and well”.
Now, royal family enthusiasts and bookies are eagerly awaiting the announcement of the child’s name as the Queen is expected to meet the child at Windsor today.
As celebrations pour in from around the world, pop singer Sophie Ellis Bextor, who is close friends with the Duchess of Sussex, let slip on Good Morning Britain that she already knows the name of the couple’s baby but insisted she was “sworn” to secrecy.
As anticipation builds for the big reveal, there’s been a surge of online bets over the name. Currently, Alexander is favourite to win at 7/2 at Betfair while James and Arthur are following closely at 4/1 and 5/1 respectively. Meanwhile, Ladbrokes has Alexander as a favourite at 3/1 while Spencer sits at 5/1 and Arthur and James at 6/1.
Like Ladbrokes, William Hill has Alexander down as favourite at 4/1 with James at 5/1 and Spencer 6/1. Meanwhile, PaddyPower lists Alexander as a favourite at 7/2 with both James and Spencer tailing closely at 4/1.
According to reports, Arthur has been used frequently in the royal family and its thought that the couple will decide on a traditional name in-line with the odds. What will the Duke and Duchess of Sussex name their child? We’ll have to wait to find out.
