A man from Queensland, Australia unintentionally doubled his winnings to nearly $2 million after he mistakenly bought an extra ticket in the Saturday Gold Lotto draw.
The lucky Sunshine Coast man didn’t even realise his fortunate mistake. He was only celebrating his win from a single ticket, until a Golden Casket official contacted him to tell him his prize had doubled.
“Oh my god. I’ve got double that win?” said the anonymous winner, surprised.”So I’ve got more than $1.98 million? Mate, you’re kidding me, you are kidding me! Today, you‘ve changed my life, man.”
Later he realised that he had accidentally bought two of the four division one winning entries across Australia.
“What I did is I accidentally doubled up. I did buy two tickets. I’ve done it a few times now.” said the man in his 40s. He said he bought entries in advance but they sometimes overlap when he purchased the next one.
The lucky winner said he might quit his job. He was also planning to buy a gift for his parents.
The latest Queensland millionaire shared the prize pool with with a South Australian winner and a player from Western Australia.
The Monday, Wednesday and Saturday Gold Lotto draws have created a total of 146 millionaires in Australia this year.
