The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has announced it’s suspended Nektan (Gibraltar) Limited’s gambling license.
In a news announcement on the UKGC website, the regulatory body revealed it suspended Nektan’s operating license as it believed Nektan had breached the conditions of its license.
The Commission also stated that it believes Nektan is “unsuitable to carry on the licensed activities” and that its licensed activities “are being or have been carried on in a manner which is inconsistent with the licensing objectives”.
As a result, all of Nektan’s gambling websites have ceased operations in the UK, and the UK Gambling Commission has launched a review into the operator. The suspension will continue until the review’s completion or “until such time as the operator can satisfy the Commission it is operating compliantly”.
Nektan went into administration back in 2020, but its UK facing business was sold to Grace Media, owned by the Active Win Group. The group’s license was used to operate websites such as Captain Wins, Cheeky Riches, Chomp Casino, Cloud Casino, Evoreels, and numerous other popular casino sites too.
The Commission has stated it will not comment any further while it carries out its investigation into Nektan.
The news comes after the UK Gambling Commission fined operator Casumo a whopping £6 million after conducting an assessment into the firm’s operations and discovering several social responsibility and anti-money laundering failings.
Meanwhile, the Young Gamers and Gamblers Education Trust (YGAM) has launched its brand new Parents Hub website, designed to “empower” parents with knowledge and understand of gaming and gambling.
According to reports, the website offers parents of young gamers information and support to allow them to engage with and enjoy video games while being safe online too. Some of this information available on the website includes game guides for select games and a gaming glossary too.
Amanda Atkinson, the Head of Delivery for YGAM’s Parent programme, said in a statement: “It’s been fantastic to launch the newly designed Parent Hub this week.
“It has been a fascinating process as we have collaborated with parents, gamers, young people, academics, and educators to create a website that gives enough information and support to parents without being overwhelming and inaccessible.”
Kev Clelland, the Director of Operations at YGAM, added: “Our priority is safeguarding children and young people growing up in the online galaxy of gaming.
“A key part of this is demystifying the world of video games for parents and highlighting the many positive experiences gaming can provide whilst increasing their awareness of the potentially harmful aspects.”
Clelland continued: “The Parent Hub will empower parents with the knowledge and understanding to help their children access the world of gaming in a safe and secure manner. The team at YGAM are keen to work closely with the gaming industry here in the UK and across the world, to better support future generations of gamers and keep gaming safe for children and young people.”
Earlier this year, YGAM called for more education on gambling and for a mandatory levy on the industry in its submission to the Government’s review of the Gambling Act 2005. The charity also highlighted the importance of education on gambling and the risks and harm associated with it.
